Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Business and Management (Top-Up)
The Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Business and Management is a 12-month programme offered by Bath Spa University. Embarking on this programme, students will gain a broad and deep knowledge of businesses today which are relevant to the Asian economy.
This programme will also give students a good grasp of what business management is all about, the environment within which business operates, key activities at the centre of organisations, an understanding of economic thinking and an appreciation of the role of data and information in business.

Polytechnic Diploma in Business Management or equivalent OR
Advanced Diploma in Service Management awarded by Training Vision Institute OR

Workplace Literacy (WPL) Advanced Level 7 and above

Programme structure - 5 Modules
Module 1: Business and Management Business Project (40 credits)
This module provides you the opportunity to identify and research problem and investigate it independently. You will define a clear research question and identify the objectives of your research. You will then review and synthesise existing knowledge in a literature review. You will design the research method and collect data. Your data will then be analysed and critically discussed in relation to your research question and objectives.
Module 2: Enterprise: Creating & Developing Your Business (20 credits)
The focus of this module is to enable you to produce a viable business proposition and to reflect on the challenges of running your own business. This module is designed to give you the opportunity to plan, develop and manage your own business idea. It takes you from your initial idea through to the business concept and culminates in a presentation of your business plan.
This module will develop your business skills and awareness of what is required when working for yourself. We encourage you to collaborate with other students to build on each other's strengths and to learn from shared experience and knowledge.
Module 3: Business Strategy (20 credits)
This module explores ways in which business attempt to make realistic and viable plans for the future. In particular, it contrasts orthodox and conventional thinking on strategies with critical, heterodox and acumen approaches. There is an emphasis on developing your analytical and evaluative skills through assessments from different models (providing insights and theories).
Module 4: New Trends in Management (20 credits)
This module will explore the most current transformations in the economy and how businesses and institutions have responded creatively to them. Some businesses have adopted novel and innovative practices in order to be able to operate successfully and pro in this new environments. This module investigates all of these developments and will also take a critical attitude towards them in order to separate the hype from the reality.
Module 5: Cross Cultural Management in International Business (20 credits)
Management practices and processes frequently differ across national and regional boundaries. What may be acceptable managerial behaviour in one culture may be counterproductive or even unacceptable in another. As managers increasingly themselves working across cultures, they need to understand that these differences have become increasingly important.
The purpose of this module is to encourage students to examine why these differences exist and how global managers can develop strategies and tactics to deal with them. This module also develops students' ability apply their knowledge and understanding to complex management and business problems in order to improve their business and management practives in global context.
