Admission criteria

​Local Students

  • 3 GCE ‘O’ Level passes with a pass in English Language at C6, OR

  •  Matured candidates who are at least 30 years of age with 8 years of full-time work experience, OR

  •  Candidates with other qualifications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

  • GCE ‘O’ Level Language with a minimum grade of C6, OR

  • WPL Level 6 (Average of Reading, Listening, Speaking & Writing Scores), OR

  •  IELTS 6.0 or equivalent (applicable for International students), OR

Our Educators

Dr. Tan Lay Hong

Dr. Tan Lay Hong graduated from NUS Law Faculty in 1985 with LL.B (Class 2A) and practised in civil litigation. She left practice to start an academic career with NTU, Business School.

She was a tenured Associate Professor at NTU and taught at NTU, Business School for 24 years. She obtained a Ph.D with NUS Law Faculty in 2014. She is a trainer at NUS Law School, Pro bono and Legal Clinic. She is a frequent speaker at seminars and conferences and has written 5 books on company law and corporate governance.

Suppiah Thangaveloo

Suppiah Thangaveloo is a Consultant with the Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice, with more than 33 years of litigation experience.

 

He graduated with a BA Law (Hons)(Manchester)(1981), Degree of Utter Barrister (Gray’s Inn)(1983), Post Graduate Practical Course in Law Board of Education (Singapore)(1984).

 

Thangaveloo has vast industry experiences internationally such as in countries like Australia, Philippines and Malaysia.

Yang Eu Jin

Yang Eu Jin is Partner and Co-Head of RHTLaw Asia’s Corporate and Capital Markets Practice and Head of the Education Industry Group.

 

He has covered a wide spectrum of corporate and securities law-related work, with particular expertise in corporate finance and capital markets work. He has advised many local and foreign enterprises seeking to undertake public listings and post-listing corporate action on the SGX.

Nandakumar Renganathan

Nandakumar Renganathan is the Deputy Head of the firm’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice and one of the founding members of RHTLaw Asia. He is an experienced counsel and has acted for both public listed and private limited companies in commercial claims. Claims handled by Renganathan include contractual claims, shareholder and partnerships disputes, sale of goods, defamation, property dispute, medical negligence intellectual property infringements and sale and purchase of companies.

 

Key areas of expertise: Financial Services, Commercial Litigation, Probate & Administration

Sandra Han

Sandra’s main areas of practice for over 29 consecutive years has been in real estate and private client. Her real estate work for institutions, corporations and HNWIs comprises the acquisitions and disposals of residential, commercial and industrial properties, loan transactions (involving local and foreign banks).

 

She heads the firm’s corporate leasing team and has extensive experience working with clients who own or manage portfolios of commercial units and offices units at prime areas in Singapore. Her private client coverage encompasses estates, wills, and probate and administration. She has also advised on immigration issues for the UHMWI who applied for Singapore’s permanent residence under the Global Investor Program.

Chew Kok Liang

Chew Kok Liang is one of the founding members of RHTLaw Asia and is a partner of its Corporate and Capital Markets Practice. He is experienced to advise on corporate and commercial law and practice, corporate governance, corporate finance, litigation and corporate secretarial services. His experience includes reverse takeovers, initial public offers, mergers, acquisitions, divestments, joint ventures, right issues, placements and interested person transactions.

Programme structure - 9 Modules

Module 1: Legal Fundamentals

Introduces students to the concept of law and the legal system in Singapore and an overview of legal contracts that will help students learn drafting approaches to ensure contract utility and enforceability. Fundamentals of Law of Tort will be covered u Ability to identify and solve legal problems arising from a civil context

Module 2: Criminal Law

Different aspects of criminal litigation will be taught, from arrest to appeal u Students will be exposed to the Criminal Procedure, Evidence Act and relevant cases which encapsulate the essential rules parties need to know to conduct a criminal litigation.

Module 3: Family Law

Students will be taught on the procedure of commencing matrimonial proceedings and the necessary documents to be filed to obtain the Final Judgment

Module 4:  Company and Partnership

An understanding of the core principles of company and partnership laws in Singapore as well as the various company and partnership structures available.

Module 5: Civil Procedure

Aim of the module is to educate students about the entire litigation process. Focuses mainly on the Rules of Court and Supreme Court Practice Directions where it set out the rules governing any civil proceedings going through the Court system.

Module 6: Preparing Bills for Taxation

Introduction to the concept of taxation and its underlying principle.

Module 7: Conveyancing Law & Procedure

Basic law and legal concepts governing real property in Singapore will be covered. The entire conveyancing transaction will be taught. Procedures for the purchase of Strata Land Title property as well as Land Title property will be covered. Students will gain a deeper understanding of the importance of following the strict timelines.

Module 8: Corporate Secretarial Practice

An understanding on how to set up a company or any other business vehicle to carry out his business in Singapore.

Module 9: Intellectual Property Law

An overview of the various Intellectual Property (IP) rights in Singapore will be covered where students will be introduced to topics of Copyrights, Patents, Trade Marks, Trade Secrets and Confidential Information
